The first Pauline monastery in present day in Croatia was founded in the second half of the 13th century on the lower slopes of the Medvednica Mountains. During two seasons of archaeological excavations (2007 - 2008) on the southern plateau of the parish church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the ruins of two earlier churches were discovered.
